Meet the Founder
The middle child of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan and Toy Sargent is no stranger to Theatre Arts or hard work. Her passion for the stage began in the 6th grade when Coach Palermo encouraged her audition for “The Wiz”. To her surprise, she was cast as “Dorothy” and the rest is history. She is a proud alumnus of DeSoto High School’s Theatre Arts department where she balanced Athletics, Choir, and Theatre. She attended Louisiana State University and graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA with her B.A. degree in Theatre, and received her Master’s in Education Administration from Lamar University.
She is currently serving as the Assistant Principal at Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy. She is also the former Theatre Arts Director of DeSoto High School and Curtistene S. McCowan Fine Arts Magnet Academy where she directed great productions over her 15 years experience. She has been selected as the Most Influential Teacher for the last two years by her former theatre students. Hanspard is an active Youth Sponsor, Praise and Worship Leader, at Faithful Missionary Baptist Church where her husband Byron C. Hanspard Sr. serves as Senior Pastor.
With a love for theatre and young people, she is now the Founder and Director of Purple PUMPS Productions, LLC, with the mission of providing Powerful, Uplifting, Messages, Performances, and Services through creative expression. Hanspard is married to her high school sweetheart Byron Sr.,, and have 3 wonderful sons Byron Jr. (BJ), Bryon, and Bryson. She is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
